Smoke swirls beside a tiered cake at a crowded 1950s dance, and a tall caped figure forms inside it.
A new guest.

The lights flicker. Nobody notices. Beside the cake, a tall shape steps out of a little cloud of smoke, as if he had been there all along.

Dracula, in a black satin cape, bows and offers his hand to Dottie, who raises an eyebrow, while Chet eats a sandwich behind her.
May I have this dance?

“Good evening. I could not help noticing you are… full of life.” Dottie has been asked to dance by stranger men. Not many. Chet keeps eating.

Dottie slow-dances with Dracula beside a table holding a glass punch bowl.
The slow one.

The Moonlighters slip into a doo-wop ballad. The Count dances beautifully. His hands are very cold. Dottie glances at the punch bowl.

In the dark surface of the punch bowl, Dottie's reflection dances alone, hugging empty air, with the hem of a black cape at the top edge.
The reflection.

In the punch, she is dancing with nobody at all.

A close-up of Dracula's hypnotic stare, a strip of light across his eyes, one hand raised.
“You are getting very sleepy…”

“Look into my eyes. You are getting… very… sleepy.”

Dottie smiles and holds out a slice of garlic bread as Dracula recoils behind his cape, eyes wide.
Garlic bread?

Dottie counts her old cheer routine in her head: five, six, seven, eight. Not sleepy. “Garlic bread? Mrs Hollis made it.”

Smoke rises in the town hall rafters as a small bat flies up and a pale pom-pom falls.
Exit, pursued by garlic.

A puff of smoke, a squeak, and a small bat in the rafters. Somewhere in the confusion, one of Dottie’s pom-poms goes missing for good.

Dracula sulks alone over a slice of cake while water and pond weed seep under a cloakroom door beside him.
Cake, at least.

Ten minutes later the Count is back, sulking over a slice of cake. He doesn’t notice the water seeping from under the cloakroom door. Or the squelching.
