Pond water and weed gush out of a cloakroom door over a pair of saddle shoes.
Squelch.

Dottie opens the cloakroom door. The cloakroom opens back, all over her saddle shoes.

A shy scaly swamp creature with a fin crest and a lily pad corsage peeks out from among dripping coats.
Gill-Bert.

Among the soggy coats stands something from Pinecrest Pond: scales, a fin crest, enormous worried eyes, and a lily pad pinned on like a corsage. He has been working up the nerve for an hour.

Dottie, holding one pom-pom, offers her hand to the swamp creature, who reaches back shyly.
“Come on. Nobody bites.”

“Come on. Nobody here bites. Well. One fella might, but he’s sulking.”

The guests scream with hands on their cheeks as Dottie leads the dripping creature onto the dance floor.
The entrance.

Everyone screams.

The crowd, the Mayor and the werewolf applaud wildly as the swamp creature stands dripping in the foreground.
The applause.

Then everyone applauds. “Best costume yet!” shouts the Mayor. Vernon claps hardest of all; it’s nice not to be the new guy.

The swamp creature slips on its puddle and sends the punch bowl flying towards the startled Mayor.
Wet floor.

Gill-Bert beams, takes one proud step, and meets his own puddle. The punch bowl goes up. The Mayor does not get out of the way.

Dottie, the swamp creature and the werewolf dance wildly on the wet floor while Dracula sulks in the background.
The Pond Scum Shuffle.

The Moonlighters, who have never stopped for anything, swing into a swampy garage-rock number. Dottie dances with Gill-Bert. The Count, upstaged twice in one night, folds his arms.

Through a fogged window, an old ambulance with a dome light pulls up on the foggy road outside.
A siren.

Outside, a siren winds down. Through the fog, an old ambulance pulls up to the town hall, its dome light turning, turning.
